Dallas’ Berkley’s Market brings its biggest store to Knox Street

The Dallas-based specialty grocery and prepared food store’s fourth location has patio seating for 50 for outdoor wine sipping.

Dallas-based Berkley’s Market opened its fourth and largest store on Knox Street.

The almost 5,000-square-foot store has 600 square feet of outdoor seating. Berkley’s has two smaller stores in downtown Dallas on Main Street and Ross Avenue and one on Davis Street in Oak Cliff.

The new store is between Pegasus Bank and Taverna on the northwest corner of Knox and Travis Street in a spot that co-owner Zac Porter had eyed for years.

“It’s a great spot. We feel really lucky to be here closer to our old neighborhood customers in Highland Park and convenient to the Katy Trail,” Porter said.

Porter and co-owners Emily Ray-Porter, his wife, and his friend Cullen Potts created Berkley’s Market and started expanding their brand after parting with Austin-based Royal Blue Grocery. They operated Royal Blue in Dallas from 2015 to 2021 until the location closed in Highland Park Village. That space is now Sadelle’s bagel restaurant.

The store has been open for two weeks and so far customer response has affirmed the owners’ belief that there was a demand for a shop like theirs that sells groceries, prepared food to-go, coffee, pastries, beer and wine, and wine by the glass, Porter said.

Once the temperature cools, he sees friends meeting on the patio, which has seating for 50, drinking a glass of wine and taking a break from shopping.

Porter said he knows the Knox district already has coffee shops and bakeries and a Trader Joe’s, but he said, “What we do is a little special and unique to the neighborhood.”

Berkley’s is working on launching e-commerce next for online orders and deliveries, Porter said.

In addition to several restaurants, the walkable neighborhood has a Trader Joe’s and Starbucks. More recently the Village Baking Co. Boulangerie and Foxtrot cafe and convenience store opened.

Berkley’s Market is at 3300 Knox St. in space formerly occupied by the outdoor home goods store Into the Garden.
