FRISCO — The fact the Cowboys went all of last season without their first-team offensive line taking a single game rep together is a well-established sore subject inside Ford Center at The Star. So, seeing left guard Tyler Smith grab his hamstring Monday and walk off the field, minutes into the first game-week practice of 2023, was hardly a welcome sight.
Fortunately for all involved, good news followed.
Smith exited with hamstring tightness, and the soft-tissue injury is considered minor, a person familiar with the matter said. The 2022 first-round pick will see how the muscle responds to rest and rehabilitation before the team’s next scheduled practice Wednesday. While there is optimism, his activity bears monitoring before Sunday’s opener at the New York Giants.

Last season, left tackle Tyron Smith missed the first 13 games with a hamstring tendon injury that required surgery. In the final game without Tyron, right tackle Terence Steele tore three knee ligaments, which led Tyron to finish the season at right tackle.
The projected Week 1 starting offensive line is, from left to right, Tyron Smith, Tyler Smith, Tyler Biadasz, Zack Martin and Terence Steele.
Defensive end Sam Williams (turf toe) and safety Donovan Wilson (groin) were the only players on the Cowboys’ roster not to practice.
