Construction begins soon in Celina to transform Ownsby Parkway from Preston to Coit roads into four lanes.
To gather feedback and share the traffic control plan with residents, city officials will hold a public meeting at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 6, at Donny O’Dell Elementary School, 750 Punk Carter Parkway.
The project was awarded to RPM xConstruction during the Aug. 8 City Council meeting. The estimated cost will be $14.2 million, according to planning documents filed with the state Aug. 14.
Joe Monaco, communications director, said the project includes underground drainage system improvements, streetlights, landscaping and irrigation, a traffic signal at the Preston/Ownsby intersection, a northbound right turn lane along Preston Road and an eastbound right turn lane along the existing Ownsby Parkway.
The project also includes the reconstruction of County Road 83 from Quail Hollow to Ownsby into a two-lane concrete curb and gutter road.
Andy Glasgow, director of engineering, said during the council meeting that staff would soon be meeting with the contractor to discuss phasing of the project.
“We know construction is going to affect surrounding communities. We want to talk to residents in the area, give them a heads-up about when it’s going to start and traffic control, so everybody is aware of what’s coming,” Glasgow said. “We’ll get feedback and do whatever modifications we need to make sure we are incorporating citizen comments.”
