Nearly 300 seats will be up for grabs in the Senate Gallery.

The hottest ticket in Texas next week isn’t a college football matchup.

The long-awaited impeachment trial of Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton, set to begin Sept. 5, is expected to draw big crowds to the State Capitol in Austin.

Those who want to watch the historic trial in person will need a ticket, with 296 seats in the Senate gallery reserved for the public, according to the Senate secretary’s office. Here’s what to know about getting a ticket:

The impeachment trial

The Texas House voted overwhelmingly in May to impeach Paxton. He is accused of abusing his office to help real estate developer Nate Paul, as well as conspiracy, bribery and unfitness for office.

Paxton, a Republican re-elected to a third term in November, has denied all wrongdoing. His lawyers argue the alleged acts either were within Paxton’s authority as attorney general or are not serious enough to warrant impeachment.

Proceedings will determine whether Paxton remains in office. Two-thirds of senators, who will serve as jurors, must approve any one of the 20 articles of impeachment against Paxton for him to be removed. If they do , they can also vote on barring him from ever holding elected office in Texas again.

Paxton is suspended from his official duties without pay pending the trial’s completion.
