Luka Doncic, Slovenia fall to Germany in FIBA World Cup, advance to quarterfinals

Doncic and Slovenia will face a Canada team that boasts Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, Dillon Brooks, RJ Barrett and Dwight Powell.

Dallas Mavericks star Luka Doncic and Slovenia have suffered their first loss of FIBA World Cup play.

Doncic had 26 points, six rebounds and six assists in Slovenia’s 100-71 loss to Germany on Sunday. Dennis Schroder led the way for Germany with 24 points and 10 assists.

Despite the loss, Slovenia will advance to the World Cup quarterfinals to face Canada on Wednesday. Canada is led by NBA stars Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, Dillon Brooks, RJ Barrett and Doncic’s Mavericks teammate Dwight Powell.

Slovenia finished group play with a 4-1 record, which includes wins over Australia, Venezuela, Georgia and Cape Verde.

Doncic is the leading scorer in international play thus far, averaging 26.4 points per game. However, he struggled to find his stroke against Germany, shooting 9-22 from the floor and 2-11 from deep.
