What has been the best football district in the Dallas area? The answer will surprise you

District 3-6A is 12-4, has outscored the opposition by 325 points and has five undefeated teams.

We are only two weeks into the high school football season. But one big surprise has emerged.

So far, District 3-6A has been the best district in the Dallas area in Class 6A or 5A. That is going purely off of the combined record of all of the teams in the district, top to bottom.

Teams in 3-6A are 12-4 and have outscored the opposition by 325 points. The eight-team district has five undefeated teams — Crowley, Fort Worth Boswell, Fort Worth Paschal, Hurst L.D. Bell and North Crowley.

The only 0-2 team in the district is three-time state champion Euless Trinity, which has lost to state-ranked Prosper and area-ranked Rockwall-Heath by a combined eight points. This is a district that had a combined record of 46-40 last year, with only 12-1 North Crowley making it past the first round of the playoffs.

North Crowley (2-0), ranked No. 12 in the state, has been the best team in 3-6A, outscoring Arlington Sam Houston and Arlington 138-27. Quarterback Chris Jimerson has accounted for 11 touchdowns and 673 yards of total offense, and running backs Ashton Searl and Cornelius Warren have combined to rush for 432 yards and six touchdowns.

North Crowley will get a big test this week, as it plays at Lovejoy at 7 p.m. Friday. Lovejoy (2-0), ranked No. 5 in the state in Class 5A Division II, has opened the season with wins over 2022 5A Division I state runner-up College Station and 2022 5A Division II state semifinalist Argyle, winning by a combined score of 92-51.

Right behind 3-6A is District 7-5A Division I, which is 11-5 and has no 0-2 teams. Forney, Lufkin and Tyler are all 2-0, and 1-1 Longview is ranked No. 2 in the state in 5A Division I after reaching the state semifinals last year.

The nine-team District 4-5A Division I is 12-6 and has five undefeated teams with Granbury, Killeen, Killeen Shoemaker, Lake Belton and Red Oak. District 4-6A also has five undefeated teams — state-ranked Southlake Carroll (No. 6), state-ranked Trophy Club Byron Nelson (No. 17), Keller, Keller Timber Creek and Northwest Eaton — and the district is a combined 10-6.

District 11-6A was the best district in the state last year, as Duncanville (6A Division I) and DeSoto (6A Division II) both won state titles. Those two teams, plus Waxahachie — which reached the third round of the playoffs — were a combined 39-5.

The district is 8-7 so far this year, but Duncanville (2-0), Mansfield (2-0), Waxahachie (2-0) and DeSoto (1-0) are all undefeated and ranked in the top 20 in the area, along with 1-1 Cedar Hill. Duncanville (No. 8) and DeSoto (No. 15) are both ranked in the top 15 in the nation by MaxPreps, and Duncanville has a win over defending 5A Division II state champion South Oak Cliff and DeSoto has won at five-time state champion Allen. Mansfield has a win over Mansfield Summit, ranked No. 13 in the area in 5A.

By the end of the season, expect 11-6A to once again be the best district in the state as Duncanville and DeSoto challenge for state titles. The district has a combined 13 area top-100 recruits, led by Duncanville five-star defensive lineman Colin Simmons (committed to Texas) at No. 1 and Duncanville four-star running back Caden Durham (committed to LSU) at No. 8.
